Swimming Carnival

21 Sep 2017

Claudia and Ella holding the winning house trophy and Tiarne and Daniella holding the Spirit Cup.

What a fantastic day was had by all at our annual swimming carnival held at the Hawkesbury Oasis Centre at Windsor.

It was great to see each of the students dressed in their team's colour and got into the spirit of the day.

Students participated well during each event and encouraged their friends to do their best throughout the day. Each house colour cheered on their own team with lots of encouragement, as their teammates swam to the finish line. It was a great day for the students to challenge their physical abilities and teamwork.

Thank you to the P & F and parent volunteers who helped out throughout the day and it was wonderful to see the parents and grandparents there supporting their children. The enthusiasm in the cheering gave the carnival a community feel and lots of school spirit.

Thank you to our 2016 House colour captains for the effort they put into designing signs and organising cheers for their team on the day.

Congratulation to all our students who received a ribbon for their efforts and for all those students who achieved a personal best or tried something new, well done! This year saw many records broken. A special mention goes to Jesse Eldred who broke six school swimming records.

Congratulations to Mrs Byrne for organising another wonderful and successful carnival.

Students in Year 3 enjoying the novelty events that were organised for the non-competitive swimmers.

Congratulations to all the children who represented OLA at the Hills Band Festival, which was held at Stanhope Gardens last Friday evening. The Hills Band Festival is an annual event that showcases local school bands under the tuition of Teaching Services Australia. In front of a full house at John 23rd, the OLA band performed 3 songs and sounded amazing, and we were even awarded a 'Silver Award'. We are so proud to be able to showcase our talented musicians, and we thank Julia Stafford, from Teaching Services Australia, who has been working all year with our band members.

What Your Child Really Learns in the First 100 Days of School

One moment your child is holding your hand at the school gate and before you know it, they're walking in confidently, greeting friends by name, carrying their own bag, and coming home full of stories about 'assembly' and 'sport'. Here’s what to expect in their first 100 days of Kindergarten.

Today, our OLA students joined children all across Australia for Simultaneous Storytime, diving into the joyful adventure of Luna Roo. Our students were completely absorbed, not just in the story, but also in the directed drawing that followed. They loved bringing Luna and her world to life through art, showing just how powerful books can be in inspiring creativity. This was a wonderful celebration of reading, storytelling, and shared learning at OLA!

On Wednesday, OLA will join millions of children across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime- all reading Luna Roo at the same time! This story follows Luna the kangaroo and her friends as they chase their footy dreams across the outback, celebrating teamwork, courage, and having a go. We can’t wait to share this moment of reading, connection, and storytelling with our students. At OLA, we 'Read to Succeed'!

Kindergarten and Year 6 shared a very special moment this week. Kindergarten were learning that we are all made in the image of God- each of us unique, with our own similarities and differences, yet equally loved. Year 6 have also been exploring how God gives everyone different gifts, and why those gifts matter in our world. During our buddy visit, each student drew a portrait of their buddy. It was such a beautiful reminder of how our youngest and oldest learners work together.

Our Kindergarten students have been learning all about kindness in Religion this term. They explored what it means to show kindness to others and created their own colourful kindness rocks to remind us that small acts of love can make a big difference. We’re so proud of their gentle hearts and the way they are already living out kindness in our school community.
