OLA's First Walk-a-thon

21 Sep 2017

Students in each house colour warming up before their walk.

The P and F organised a great Walk-a-thon for the OLA community to be a part.

Students, teachers and parents walked 2.4km around the local Rouse Hill area. Even our Japanese visitors participated in this activity.

We would like to thank our P and F committee, all the parents and grandparents who associated were involved prior and on the day.

We would also like to thank all of the generous OLA families and friends who have sponsored the children to raise money for the school and to the many local businesses for their support in making today a a great success and a special day for our students.

What an exciting day at Our Lady of the Angels, as the Sydney Kings visited Stage 3! We were fortunate to welcome Sydney Kings players Bul Kuol and Keli Leaupepe, who spoke to our students about following their dreams, doing what they love, and never giving up. The message was simple but powerful- keep working hard, stay true to yourself, and believe in what’s possible. A huge thank you to the Sydney Kings for inspiring our kids today. Good luck in the semi‑finals this Wednesday- OLA is cheering for you!

NAPLAN: What Parents Really Need to Know

Each March, families across Australia hear a lot about NAPLAN. The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. But what does it really mean for your child in 2026?

Last Thursday, our students gathered for one of our favourite traditions, in honour of Catholic Schools Week- Rug Reading. There’s something so joyful about spreading out across the playground, sharing stories, and celebrating the simple pleasure of getting lost in a good book. A huge thank you to the families who joined us. It was lovely seeing families join in- it made the moment feel extra special for our little readers. At OLA, we know that we 'Read to Succeed'- and it’s even more powerful when the whole OLA family is part of the journey!

Today we joyfully celebrated the beginning of Catholic Schools Week with a beautiful liturgy led by our Student Leaders. Reflecting on the Samaritan woman at the well in the Gospel of John, we were reminded that Jesus meets us in the ordinary moments of our lives and fills us with “living water” — hope, grace and renewal. It was a powerful reflection on our mission in Catholic education: to nurture faith-filled learning, inspire excellence, and empower every child to grow, thrive and live out the Gospel through faith, learning and service. A sincere thank you to Ms Grima for thoughtfully organising our celebration, and to our School Captains for leading and presenting the liturgy so reverently today.

On Friday, we gathered as a school community to officially welcome our newest OLA learners at a special Assembly. Each child was proudly named on stage, greeted with smiles and applause, and it was beautiful to see their confidence shining through. One of the highlights was hearing them begin to learn and sing our school song- a beautiful moment that marks the start of their journey at OLA. We are so excited to watch these students grow, learn, and thrive. Welcome to our OLA family- we’re so glad you’re here!
