Stage 3 Soccer Gala Day

21 Sep 2017

Stage 3 Boys Soccer team

Stage 3 boys participated in a Soccer Gala Day at Jamison Park, Penrith.

The boys played 8 games. There were two different teams, a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team. Both teams played exceptionally well and tried their hardest. Most importantly, they all had lots of fun. Thank you to the team managers, Mr Hallal and Mr Sweeney.

A group of enthusiastic girls participated in a Soccer Gala Day at Jamison Park. It was a freezing cold day but we all got through the seven games. The team went amazing winning 3 games, losing 1 and drawing 3 games.

It was tough competition but we carried on and showed great teamwork. At the end of the day we came close to winning but the most important thing is we played our best and had fun!

Recently, our Year 6 scientists have been busy investigating forces in action! Students have been exploring how push, pull, friction, and gravity affect the movement of objects through hands‑on experiments. There has been plenty of curiosity, teamwork, and great discussion as they have been testing predictions and observing what really happens. Well done, Year 6 scientists- keep exploring!

Congratulations to the top six students in each age group who received their Cross Country medals at today’s presentation! These outstanding athletes have qualified to represent OLA at the Parramatta Diocesan Cross Country Championships next term. Qualifying is an incredible achievement and reflects their dedication, determination, and sportsmanship at our school Cross Country. The Diocesan event will be held at Eastern Creek Race Track next term, and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they take on the next challenge. We are so proud of each of our runners!

Congratulations to our outstanding swimmers who proudly represented OLA and the Hills Zone at the Parramatta Diocesan Swimming Carnival last Wednesday. Our students displayed exceptional sportsmanship, determination, and team spirit throughout the day. We are especially thrilled to acknowledge Hamish and Gabriella, who have qualified for the next level. They will now go on to represent Parramatta at the NSWCSP Swimming Championships on 1 April at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. We are incredibly proud of every student for their effort, commitment, and enthusiasm. Well done, OLA swimmers- what an achievement!

NAPLAN: What Parents Really Need to Know

Each March, families across Australia hear a lot about NAPLAN. The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. But what does it really mean for your child in 2026?

What an exciting day at Our Lady of the Angels, as the Sydney Kings visited Stage 3! We were fortunate to welcome Sydney Kings players Bul Kuol and Keli Leaupepe, who spoke to our students about following their dreams, doing what they love, and never giving up. The message was simple but powerful- keep working hard, stay true to yourself, and believe in what’s possible. A huge thank you to the Sydney Kings for inspiring our kids today. Good luck in the semi‑finals this Wednesday- OLA is cheering for you!

Last Thursday, our students gathered for one of our favourite traditions, in honour of Catholic Schools Week- Rug Reading. There’s something so joyful about spreading out across the playground, sharing stories, and celebrating the simple pleasure of getting lost in a good book. A huge thank you to the families who joined us. It was lovely seeing families join in- it made the moment feel extra special for our little readers. At OLA, we know that we 'Read to Succeed'- and it’s even more powerful when the whole OLA family is part of the journey!

Today we joyfully celebrated the beginning of Catholic Schools Week with a beautiful liturgy led by our Student Leaders. Reflecting on the Samaritan woman at the well in the Gospel of John, we were reminded that Jesus meets us in the ordinary moments of our lives and fills us with “living water” — hope, grace and renewal. It was a powerful reflection on our mission in Catholic education: to nurture faith-filled learning, inspire excellence, and empower every child to grow, thrive and live out the Gospel through faith, learning and service. A sincere thank you to Ms Grima for thoughtfully organising our celebration, and to our School Captains for leading and presenting the liturgy so reverently today.
