Students in Years 1 to 4 attended the Windsor Function Centre to participate in the Verse Speaking section of the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod, run by the Hawkesbury City Council.
"We had to get on stage and perform two different styles of poems and competed against many schools. It was very nerve racking experience getting on stage and performing our poems to lots of parents, judges and students"said Eoin in Yr 4.
"Even though it was a challenge, it is a very good experience as we learnt how to present poems using expression to deliver our poems and standing up in front a large group of people," added Charli.
Congratulation to Year 1 for their Highly Commended, Year 2 for 2nd Place, Year 3 for 1 st Place and Year 4 for 4th Place.

Our Year 2 students enjoyed a wonderful incursion last week with Koori Konnections, deepening their understanding of Aboriginal cultures, history and connection to Country. Through fun, hands‑on and interactive activities, students learned about: - Aboriginal ways of caring for the natural environment - Traditional knowledge and sustainability - Stories, culture and history shared by First Nations people It was a rich and engaging experience that helped bring their HSIE learning to life and strengthened their appreciation for Australia’s First Peoples!

Our Year 4 students had a fantastic day at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Friday as part of their HSIE learning. They explored real vessels, interactive exhibits and hands‑on displays that helped them understand how people have travelled, traded and connected across oceans throughout history. Students loved stepping aboard historic ships, discovering stories of explorers and migrants, and learning how maritime technology has changed over time. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring their HSIE unit to life and deepen their understanding of Australia’s past. A big thank you to our teachers for organising this, and to our parent helpers for supporting such a memorable learning experience!

Congratulations to all the Voice of Youth finalists who presented their speeches this week at the grade final. Your hard work and dedication were on display for all to appreciate. Thank you to the parents and family members of the finalists who attended to support their children, and to the Year 6 teachers for your organisation and preparation of the children. The quality of the speeches was incredibly high, and the variety of topics was very interesting to listen to. From the fifteen finalists, two students have been selected to represent Our Lady of the Angels at the Cluster Final, which will be at St John XXIII, Stanhope Gardens on Tuesday 18th August. Well done to Lucy and Akira who have been chosen to represent OLA at the Cluster Final!

We are so excited to welcome Marcelo Baez, a celebrated Australian illustrator and comic artist, to OLA this Tuesday for our Years 3–6 Book Week workshops. Marcelo has created artwork for Marvel, Apple, National Geographic, Scholastic, and many well‑known Australian publishers. He is also the illustrator behind popular children’s series including Rise of the Mythix and E‑Boy, by Ahn Do.

Tomorrow, many of our amazing Primary students will be participating in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, and we are so proud of each and every one of them. This competition gives students a chance to shine, challenge themselves, and celebrate their love of words. We can’t wait to find out our Class Champions, our Overall School Champion, and who will progress to the state and national levels- an exciting extension pathway for our high‑achieving spellers. Yesterday our Kinder students celebrated 100 days of school- 100 days of faith, fun, and learning together at OLA! The day was filled with creative activities based around the number 100- counting, building, crafting, and laughing their way through this special milestone. We have loved watching our littlest learners grow in confidence, curiosity, and friendship. A huge thank you to our amazing Kinder teachers for planning such a joyful celebration, and to our wonderful parent helpers for their support throughout the day. We are so proud of the littlest members of our OLA family. We are grateful for the joy, energy, and smiles our Kinder students bring to our OLA community every single day!

What a special few days we’ve had celebrating our OLA Feast Day. Yesterday we were so proud of our captains, Cameron and Sarah, who led the procession so beautifully after Mass. Our Band, Choir and Senior Dance Crew also shone at the Fiesta, sharing their talents and representing OLA with pride. The celebrations ended with a stunning fireworks display that lit up the sky- enjoyed not just by our school and Parish community, but by families all around the neighbourhood. What a joyful way to celebrate OLA!

What a wonderful Year 2 Assembly we enjoyed on Friday. The students led us in a thoughtful Mary MacKillop liturgy, reminding our community of her powerful message: “Never see a need without doing something about it.” Their reverence and understanding shone through beautifully. We were also treated to an impressive showcase of their learning- from their creative artworks, where students proudly shared the ideas and techniques behind their pieces, to their growing geography knowledge, confidently naming and explaining the continents they’ve been studying. Year 2 students and teachers, thank you for sharing your faith, creativity, and curiosity with us. Your learning continues to inspire our whole school community. Thank you to the parents and families who joined us for this assembly!
