Some of the students in Years 1 to 4 showing off their achievements.
Students in Years 1 to 4 attended the Windsor Function Centre to participate in the Verse Speaking section of the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod, run by the Hawkesbury City Council.
"We had to get on stage and perform two different styles of poems and competed against many schools. It was very nerve racking experience getting on stage and performing our poems to lots of parents, judges and students"said Eoin in Yr 4.
"Even though it was a challenge, it is a very good experience as we learnt how to present poems using expression to deliver our poems and standing up in front a large group of people," added Charli.
Congratulation to Year 1 for their Highly Commended, Year 2 for 2nd Place, Year 3 for 1 st Place and Year 4 for 4th Place.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Sue Whiting, an Australian children’s author, to OLA this Friday for a special Book Week experience with our K-2 students. Sue will share her stories, writing process, and the inspiration behind her books, giving students a wonderful chance to learn from a real author and spark their own love of reading and storytelling. This will be a perfect way to build Book Week excitement across our Infants classes!19 Aug 2026

Our primary students had an amazing session yesterday with illustrator Marcelo Baez. They loved learning how characters are created, how illustrators bring stories to life, and how creativity starts with simple ideas and lots of imagination. Many students walked away feeling inspired to become illustrators themselves, proudly sharing their sketches and new techniques. It was a fantastic way to spark excitement and get everyone ready for Book Week next week! A huge thank you to Marcelo for such an engaging and motivating visit!
