Year 3 Market Day

21 Sep 2017

Some of the Year 3 students making fruit kebabs and other treats.

During Term 3, Year 3 have been studying the HSIE unit ‘Who Will Buy’.

Weeks were spent researching and identifying the roles of producers, consumers and the influence of advertisements. At the beginning of September, students walked to Rouse Hill Town Centre in preparation for our Market Day on the following Thursday.

This gave them the opportunity to become the producers of delicious treats and hold their own shop front. It was a complete success, selling out of all products. It was a wonderful way to end our unit, sharing our learning with the whole school.

Dear Parents As communicated earlier via email, all schools in the area were asked to keep children inside. The police have now notified us that all has been resolved and the lockdown has been lifted. Our school and children have returned to normal. We are extremely proud of the students as they followed our practised procedures beautifully.

On Friday night, we held our annual OLA Disco- and what a night it was! There was plenty of dancing, singing, and laughter as students enjoyed fun times with their friends. A huge thank you to our amazing P&F for organising the event and to all the parent volunteers who helped make it such a success. The kids had an absolute blast!

On Friday, Year 3 wowed us with the final whole school assembly of the year. They cleverly presented their learning about Australia in the style of Australia’s Got Talent, showcasing acts that celebrated famous Australian landmarks. From Uluru to the Great Barrier Reef, the students shared fun facts that brought our landscapes to life. We also enjoyed hearing about their Religion unit on heroes, and an old favourite song, Home Among the Gumtrees. Thank you to the Year 3 teachers and students for the effort that went into the assembly- it was a great way to finish our whole assemblies for the year!

This week, we acknowledged some of our amazing Mathematicians at OLA. This year, we have had students from Years 2 to 6 participating in Maths Games, Maths Explorers, and Maths Olympiad. Each week, they have had to challenge themselves to solve maths problems, and they also participated in a number of contests throughout the year. Well done to all of these students who were all presented with a certificate, and to those students who also received patches and badges for finishing in the top 25%, top 10%, or for being especially chosen by their teachers for their persistence throughout the year. An extra special congratulations to Adrian in Year 5 and Carlos in Year 4, who finished as equal 'Highest Achievers' at OLA for 2025! A big thank you to Mrs McBrien, Mrs Cordukes, and Ms Swain who helped facilitate these groups this year, to allow our students to have these wonderful opportunities!

On Wednesday, our Faith In Action Team took part in a special day of faith formation and learning about social justice, hosted by CSPD and Jesuit Social Services (JSS). They visited Holy Family Primary School, Emerton, where they heard more about the incredible work JSS does to support the Mount Druitt community. The highlight of the day was touring the Ignite Food Store, where they saw firsthand how the donations from our Parish during Term 1 are making a real difference. A big thank you to Mrs Nicholls for providing transport and supporting our students on this meaningful experience.

Year 2 enjoyed a fun coding incursion this week. They discovered how to give instructions to a computer, fix little mistakes, and create their own simple programs. It was great to see their creativity and teamwork as they solved problems and shared ideas. Coding helps students learn to think step‑by‑step, be resilient, and use their imagination in new ways. Thank you to our Year 2 teachers for organising this! We’re so proud of how confidently they took on the challenge!

We have had so many fantastic events and celebrations again this week- and it's only going to continue for the rest of the term. On Tuesday, we very excitedly welcomed our Kindergarten 2026 students for their second orientation session. It gave the students another chance to explore, connect, and feel at home here at OLA. We can't wait to welcome them all for their final session on Thursday!
